Thursday 21st May

We had an Ocean Discovery trip this afternoon in improving conditions! It started off misty and murky and the swell and chop was coming from at least three different directions after the strong wind of the last couple of days. It didn’t stop the wildlife though. The seabirds were amazing with hundreds of shearwaters spotted, great northern divers, a puffin, gannets and kittiwakes. There was even a storm petrel fluttering around in the mist. Further out we were treated to some common dolphins who swam over to bowride the catamaran as we sailed and some of the passengers got some great bird’s eye views from the netting, getting rather wet in the process 🫣😬. We also watched the seals hauled out on the island – one of the males was treated to a very bad tempered display from Kelp as he hauled out next to her.
