Monday 18th May

It was a bit of a wet and windy start to the week, but the rain mainly held off until the very end of the trip. After hoisting the sails on leaving the harbour, we sailed southwards into a choppy, southwesterly sea and soon started picking up seabirds soaring past. A few tacks out of the bay and we were building some exciting speed as we headed out into the more exposed part of the bay. Heading inshore we then found a good number of seals hauled out on the island, and watched as two more clambered out to join the pile. Kelp was on her own of course – she’s very antisocial! Then in the distance Duncan spotted a Risso’s dolphin leap so headed over to try and find them. Frustratingly, there was only a couple of distant fins seen despite us looking patiently for a long time. It began to pour then so we headed back in. Still awaiting summer…apparently it’s on its way!
