Wednesday 28th May

ocean sunfish

After the utterly miserable conditions yesterday, we were back  out on the water in sunshine and a great sailing breeze today. This morning’s passengers were treated to some curious seals who popped up for a gawp at us, as well as only our second sunfish of the year. It’s usually May half term when they start appearing a bit more regularly. We also had lovely views of gannets and shearwaters. On the afternoon Bay Discovery we found some Risso’s dolphins – a single juvenile animal first of all who was resting, then a mother/calf pair and then a distant group. They were being at their elusive best (worst?). Later in the trip we had fantastic views of a much bigger sunfish, who was very bold and swam right past the boat a couple of times even as we were under full sail.
