Wednesday 11th September

common dolphins

It was another windy day, but we managed to get in a couple of Ocean Discovery trips. There was a good amount of wildlife to see, though the harbour porpoises this afternoon were tough to spot in the choppy conditions. They were there though! This morning there were also some leaping tuna, and lots of grey seals and the porpoises were more visible. On the afternoon trip the wind was even stronger but we reefed right down, didn’t go too many miles out and had a good sail. We saw a lot of seabird action above some feeding tuna, some diving gannets with the tricky porpoises, ten seals hauled out on the island and finally we were intercepted by a group of male common dolphins. After all the maternal pods and juveniles we have seen this summer they looked massive!
