Tuesday 8th July

a dolphin swimming in a body of water

We had a lovely couple of trips today as the day steadily got warmer and sunnier. This morning’s Discovery Voyage passengers saw common dolphins further out after a few seals round and on the island. With the commons there were plenty of seabirds, including more variety than we have seen so far this summer: Manx shearwaters, an arctic skua, a sooty shearwater among others. Returning into the bay we found a pod of Risso’s dolphins including one individual we also recorded in 2016. This afternoon we saw a GBB gull eating cuttlefish so we knew there were Risso’s somewhere. We found lots of common dolphins who gave us a lovely experience as they played around the boat and spotted a Risso’s fin in the far distance  but we were too distracted by the commons!
