Tuesday 23rd July

We had a lovely couple of trips today – a four hour followed by a two hour. The weather here currently is warm but not too hot with a bit of breeze, so perfect. This morning we had several encounters with different pods of common dolphins, including some calves and juveniles. We had lovely views of them in the crystal clear water. We also saw seabirds including a puffin, gannets (standing on a pallet!), terns and Mediterranean gulls, and several seals hauled out. This afternoon the common dolphins had moved on, but instead we saw some Risso’s dolphins. Because the water is so clear at the moment we could see their bodies glowing pure white through the water, so they were easy to track with cameras. One animal did several big breaches – in fact that’s how we first spotted them. We looked for the commons, but they had moved on by the afternoon, but we did see the seals still hauled out in the same spots! They are very hot in this weather.
