Sunday 21st June

It was a gorgeous day out on the water, and we had a three hour Ocean Discovery followed by a two hour Bay Discovery. We had great sightings on both. This morning we very quickly found some fins over to the east – Risso’s dolphins. It was one of those times when it looked like two, then four….then by the end of the encounter there were about fifteen individuals. We watched them hunting, with the gulls following them for scraps, and we had a few swim bys and some occasional breaching. Their blows sounded very loud in the still morning air. A little further out, we found a handful of common dolphins – one mother and calf pair, then a couple of juveniles who were in a very sociable mood. There was another larger pod in by the coast, and there were also lots of jellyfish around – blues, moons, a crystal jelly, and also the biggest most beautiful compass jellyfish I have ever seen. To end the trip there were a few very hot looking seals hauled out on the island.
This afternoon’s 2 hour passengers were lucky enough to find more Risso’s dolphins who were still in the inner part of the bay, and also some grey seals hauled out on the rocks.
