Tuesday 23rd April

guillemots on the water

This morning there was hardly  a breath of wind and we had to get out of the harbour because of the dropping tide, so we went out into the bay and bobbed around for a few hours. Under a gannet in the distance we saw a tall curved dorsal fin surface once – a Risso’s dolphin! They are starting to be spotted round the coast already. We headed out on the afternoon Bay Discovery trip with eleven passengers eager to see if we could find it/them again, but no – they had moved on. Good to know they are around though. We saw several sleepy seals round the island, and lots of seabirds on the move.
