Thursday 2nd July

Dolphin leaping out of the water with splashes around in the ocean.

The day started off murky but the wildlife this morning was fantastic. We had great views of harbour porpoises (between 30 and 40) feeding under diving gannets, followed by a terrific encounter with some common dolphins who were in a very showy offy mood. As we came back into the bay we found a group of Risso’s dolphins who again were very interactive with us on the boat. Finally there were several seals hauled out on the island.

It had brightened up by the start of the second trip and we had a really great sail westwards into the incoming swell. Way out west we found another group of common dolphins – a smaller pod this time which included a small calf. They seemed to want to stay in the rougher water so we left them to it. We had some lovely views of some of the sailing vessels who are arriving for this weekend’s Sea, Salts and Sail festival in Mousehole.
