Sunday 19th July

It was a very long day today with a 3 hour trip followed by two 2 hour trips. This morning as saw plenty of common dolphins in a few different groups. It started calm but a southesterly breeze got up, making things rather choppy and that was up and down all day. We also saw some seals in the water, though it was rather quiet for seabirds. The second trip was a private charter, and we sailed over to the Mount before heading offshore. There were handfuls of seabirds feeding here and there and resting on the water but again, everything was quiet. Coming back into the shore we saw a female seal hauled out, who wasn’t quite settled. She got unhurriedly into the water and swam over to a rock much close to us and hauled out there. There must have been a reason why this looked preferable! On the final trip of the day we saw a single common dolphin, a couple of beautiful female seals resting on the rocks and we also had great views of a couple of harbour porpoises as they surfaced a few times.
