Wednesday 11th June

common dolphins

It started calm this morning, perfect for spotting cetaceans. There were plenty of common dolphins in the bay, resting, socialising and then feeding. There were a couple of seals round the island, though the tide wasn’t low for a few more hours. Nearby we had some really lovely close views of a pair of fulmars on the water. The wind rose as predicted while we headed offshore to where there were lots of small groups of shearwaters feeding. Coming back into the bay we found a massive ocean sunfish! We have seen quite a few of these weird looking fish lately, but this was by far the biggest one we’ve seen for a while.
