Tuesday 5th May

Two puffins floating on rippling water surface.

We had such a great sail on this morning’s four hour Discovery Voyage. The northeasterly built behind us, taking us westwards with the outgoing tide so quickly we were able to spend some time exploring the coves between Gwennap Head and Land’s End. Because of that wind there were fewer seabirds around than the past few days, however we still managed to find some more puffins (or were they the same ones?!) We also saw some great northern divers, several choughs and a kestrel hovering, as well as the usual seabird species. We found grey seals in several locations including in one inaccessible cove, where they followed us with great interest. Later on we saw one feeding on a fish it had caught, attracting the attention of passing gannets, and a few more hauled out on the island at the end of the trip.

The weather looks good for the rest of the week. The next scheduled trip is Friday, though if there is sufficient demand, Thursday is also a possibility. Please get in touch to discuss if you fancy a sail.
