Two very draughty Ocean Discovery trips today as we were reminded what Cornwall’s prevailing wind direction is and what it can bring (showers!). However it can also bring great wildlife into the bay and so it was today, this morning at least. There were very large numbers of dolphins in the bay feeding with masses of gannets. Some of them were also in a very playful mood and we got lovely up close views of them. There were also a few tuna seen leaping, and a grey seal at the end of the trip.

After we’d dried off over lunch, we were back out for round two. The wind and chop had increased and also swung round a bit more south, which made sea and spotting conditions more tricky. We found several seals hauled out on the island before heading out to a mass of gannets which looked like a dead cert for dolphins. Someone also contacted us to say he had a minke whale by his fishing boat to…but we were just a few minutes late unfortunately. It had all dissipated and sea conditions make it tricky to look for fins. You win some, you lose some.
