We ran one of our Discovery Adventure trips this morning, which is the new 5 hour trip for 2026. With tales of fin whales around Land’s End yesterday (our day off!), all eyes were peeled. We soon found our first common dolphins feeding with gannets, which then led us on a merry dance looking for bluefin tuna busts. These can be SO frustrating when they are moving fast and you know those enormous fish are down there hunting with the dolphins, yet only a bit of churning white water plus screaming gulls gives them away. Eventually we found what we were looking for – a great wall of white water underneath the cacophony of seabirds. This contained absolutely masses of bluefin tuna which swept towards the boat. They weren’t enormous fish, but they were big enough and it was certainly a sizeable shoal. There were some cool seabirds with them, including enormous numbers of gannets, several species of gulls, Manx shearwaters, fulmars and we also spotted European storm petrels and a great skua. At the end of the trip, we had another encounter with a big pod of common dolphins, who we watched hunting closer in to the coast.

This afternoon’s Bay Discovery was also a fab trip, with loads of common dolphins spotted, a grey seal hauled out and also some Risso’s dolphins. By August, the Risso’s get a bit more unpredictable so it’s always a nice surprise when we do see them. Thanks to everyone who came along today.
