Tuesday 3rd June
This morning’s trip was originally supposed to be a four hour tour, but as forecast, there was a lot of south west wind overnight, which created some big chunky swell. So we kept it to three hours and didn’t go too far west, but even so, the surf was an impressive sight. We found some seals sheltering round the island, sleeping in the water as they waited for the tide to drop. There were really good views of a great northern diver in full summer plumage which was quite brave and stayed at the surface while we photographed it – often they quickly dive down! Further offshore, hundreds of shearwaters poured past the boat as we sailed, enjoyed the westerly wind. There were plenty of gannets too, and some kittiwakes. We soon came back into the shelter of the Bay and sailed over for a look at St Michael’s Mount
