Thursday 9th October
We had a full Ocean Discovery today, which is nice for October weekday. It felt very similar to yesterday – cool and grey, and everything was really quiet for about an hour. We passed what was initially mistaken for a skua, until we realised it was a peregrine falcon which was flying back towards the shore. Pressing on southward, Duncan spotted some tips of fins in an area where the tuna boats were…common dolphins. It was a big maternal pod containing mums, juveniles and calves. We sailed gently on the northerly breeze and they accompanied us in a very chilled out fashion before slowly peeling away. Heading inshore we then had some spectacular views of breaching bluefin tuna, some of them right by the boat. A few porpoises also popped up under some gannets, and then we had some lovely views of grey seals hauled out on the island. The tide was so low all the kelp was uncovered.
