Thursday 5th June
Today we took the other Year 2 class out from a local primary school in three separate trips, and what a day they had. Seals, seabirds and some excellent sailing skills from seven year old novices – conditions weren’t easy with a brisk westerly wind and quite a swell coming into the bay. Not only that, but the middle trip had a really awesome encounter with some Risso’s dolphins! We spotted them not long after the start of the trip, and then three of them stayed with us for the whole of the rest of the trip. They were even lapping us and bowriding as we had our novices on the helm! Two of them were very big beefy individuals and they were giving the rudders and keels some hefty whacks with their tails. We used to get this from bottlenose dolphins – maybe they enjoy the hollow thump sound.
