Thursday 20th August

Two dolphins surfacing in the ocean, with water splashing around them.

We had a very “brisk” (aka screaming) northerly wind to contend with today, though there was not much swell. Because this offshore rather than onshore wind, it just means we can reef right down and run the trips safely, though it did mean the four hour trip was shortened to three hours. We did pretty well with sightings this morning considering the conditions with lovely views of soaring shearwaters and common dolphins a little way offshore. We even saw a few tuna breaching closer inshore though they were too far for photos today. This afternoon we had a private charter for a family who are regular visitors every summer plus their friends. They had lovely views of five seals hauled out on the island – these were all adult females, plus one in the water who swam past and seemed to decide that particular haul out spot wasn’t for her. Perhaps she got some vibes from the others.
