Thursday 16th April

Seals resting on rocky shore along the water's edge.

We had a Ocean Discovery and a Bay Discovery trip today in breezy southwesterly conditions, which gave us some exciting sailing. This morning among the gannets, shearwaters and auks, we had a brief but clear view of a minke whale as it surfaced. Conditions were against us a bit to try and pick it up again but it’s good to know it was there. We also saw lots of seals hauled out on the island. On the Bay Discovery this afternoon, the wind had increased further but we made the most of the conditions to sail across it and keep the ride nice and smooth – passengers loved the sailing experience. We saw some grey seals on the rocks and in the water, and lots of shearwaters and guillemots passing us as they flew. We also saw some puffins in flight.

Next trip is on Saturday – a three hour Ocean Discovery at 10.30. Currently six spaces remain.
