Thursday 13th August

We had a really varied five hour Discovery Adventure this morning with lots of wildlife spotted. There was also a refreshing northwesterly breeze meaning we could sail a long way offshore and then back towards the coast. We spotted a total of four sunfish, three of them in one small stretch. The fourth one breached five times in a row and it was a big one! We also saw some common dolphins at the start of the trip who were busy hunting in the innermost part of the day. Some more were spotted from a distance further out to sea but by the time we got there just the seabirds remained, but these contained some great shearwaters among the Manxies. Probably the most exciting sighting was some bluefin tuna leaping right under the cliffs in the same spot we saw them in August last year. They were chasing garfish up against the shore, who we could see fleeing before the tuna leapt. We also saw some seals in various locations including one hunting with the tuna, and most unusually Seaweed was resting on a rock very close to the harbour. He looked very comfortable too!
This was then followed by a two hour Bay Discovery and all the passengers had a wonderful time, seeing common dolphins, diving gannets, more bluefin and Seaweed was still on that rock!
