Wednesday 12th August

It’s Eclipse Day. We are not running evening trips to go and see the eclipse because frankly, we want to see it ourselves ๐. And unlike the last one, it’s clear and sunny, though sadly there has been a big fire out west this afternoon. Hopefully this has been contained.
This morning was really quiet for much of the four hour Discovery Voyage. There were a few seals around the island first thing and then, despite looking in similar places to where we found everything on yesterday morning’s very productive trip, there was very little. That was until the end when we spotted a bit work up of gannets and gulls, showing us where the tuna and dolphins were. It was all still going on this afternoon on the Ocean Discovery and had in fact become much more intense, with two large areas of feeding frenzies. There are so many fish inshore that we could see them in big black patches. After watching the drama unfold inshore we then had a great sail into the south easterly breeze, and found even more gannets, gulls, shearwaters, tuna and dolphins. Sadly the card on my camera is playing up and I couldn’t upload any of this afternoon’s photos, but Duncan got some video.
