Thursday 12th September

common dolphin

It was another very windy day. While there was no swell and the horizon was flat, the offshore wind made it very cold and choppy so we couldn’t venture too far out. This morning we were again intercepted by a couple of common dolphins who seemed to be looking for something to do! Often common dolphins on their own and in very small groups can be much more wary and hard to spot but they were in the mood for company and followed us for a while as we sailed. We also saw feeding groups of seabirds which clearly had tuna under them, but all we saw were the splashes and there were probably porpoises around too. At the end of the trip we saw the seals hauled out, even at high tide. It is very neap at the moment. This afternoon conditions were tricky. Again we saw the seals and more bluefin tuna. Two groups off porpoises were spotted,  but they were too difficult to photograph in the windy conditions.

It looks calmer from tomorrow thank goodness! That cold wind is very tiring.
