Saturday 5th September

This morning we did the postponed Ocean Discovery after Wednesday’s cancellation. I think it’s fair to say it was a wise decision to go today rather than in the wind on Wednesday, because there was stacks of wildlife pretty much everywhere we went. It was one of those days when all the dolphins in the world seem to be in Mount’s Bay – well not quite but there were certainly hundreds spotted. The first couple of pods were very quiet nursery pods which contained some really young calves so we watched from a respectful distance. However there were so many more who were in a much more inquisitive mood, as well as some really intense feeding going on. We had the great good fortune to be very close by to a feeding frenzy which suddenly set up containing loads of dolphins and some absolutely massive tuna. Some of them absolutely dwarfed the dolphins and they were breaching for quite a sustained period as they tore round hunting. I think it might be my favourite sight in all of nature. After that we continued to find dolphins everywhere we went until we reluctantly headed back in for lunch.
