Saturday 13th September

Dolphin partially above water in choppy ocean waves, surface splashing.

Conditions today were similar to yesterday’s, though with no rain and slightly less swell. This morning on our three hour trip we saw plenty of grey seals and seabirds including a sooty and Cory’s shearwater. We also found some common dolphins and had some clear (though brief!) views of harbour porpoises. There are a lot out there I think, if only the sea was calm enough to allow us to see them. This afternoon we had a two hour Bay Discovery trip, and saw lots more seals out on the rocks resting. There were bursts of gannet activity showing us where there were porpoises and tuna feeding, but again, tricky to watch in the steep chop. We had good sail in the blustery sunshine.
