Saturday 12th October

bluefin tuna jumping

It was a dark, dingy morning but the rain held off for our Bay Discovery trip. There was a small juvenile seal tucked away on a rock on the island, and some big bluefin tuna jumping near Lamorna. Autumn is really the time to be seeing their antics from the shore – all along the coast from Newlyn to Pendeen it’s possible to see them, with Penberth, Land’s End and Cape Cornwall being particularly good spots. We also had an encounter with a pod of inquisitive common dolphins. For the last couple of weeks there have been more porpoises than dolphins, and now it has switched back again. Not bad for a two hour trip!
