What a whaley brilliant trip we had this afternoon (sorry, couldn’t resist). Despite occasional thick mist we had some wonderful wildlife encounters. These started with a handful of common dolphins and some breaching tuna, followed a little further on by hundreds of dolphins. They emerged in the mist as it thinned – very atmospheric. Out to sea a little we spotted a couple of kayaks – there are only a few people who would be out there in that so we went over to had a chat, and sure enough it was Rupert Kirkwood the Lone Kayaker plus pal. As we approached something long and black surfaced ahead of him – a minke whale! Rather than doing the usual minke thing of surfacing a couple of times if you’re lucky then disappearing, this one stuck around for about half an hour 😮. We had amazing views of it, including “chin up” surfaces and we could even see it moving under the water and its white “minke mittens”. I hope you enjoy the photos.
