Monday 15th July

gannet

This morning’s trip was cancelled because of the bad weather but we set off on the Ocean Discovery this afternoon wearing lots of waterproof layers in case of more rain. What a good thing we did, as we had a fairly Biblical downpour. However rain does not affect wildlife sightings, and there were small groups and individual dolphins spotted from the outset. After the rain had stopped we were delighted to find a seabird/common dolphin feeding frenzy; I had been slightly worrying about where all the seabirds have been lately. Hopefully  this is the start of them returning. It was mainly gannets involved, but there were also different species of gull including kittiwakes. One of the dolphins had a very noticeable fin injury – should be easy to spot again if this group sticks around. We finished the trip watching the seals round the island.
