Friday 30th May

seals on a rocky shore

Finally we had a good weather day (apart from a bit of fog this morning). This half term has left a lot to be desired unfortunately with several days of cancelled trips. And in more good news, as suspected the westerly winds have brought the seals back into the bay. We have really missed them this spring! On both three hour trips today, we saw lots of them hauled out and some in the water, and some of them exhibiting some very entertaining behaviours. Four females hauled out close together, and there was lots of moaning and snapping going on – one stuck her tongue out at us, but I don’t expect she meant it. This morning we also saw an ocean sunfish; it was fairly active at the surface so swam away fairly quickly. We had a far away view of an immature puffin this morning, and a much clearer look at an adult this afternoon, who was looking very splendid in his summer plumage.

Spaces remain on our afternoon Ocean Discovery trip tomorrow at 1pm.
