Friday 24th May

Grey seal Kelp

We had a lovely three hour trip this afternoon in really calm conditions. Despite the gloom on land, offshore the sun was out. We found three seals hauled out on the island, including our favourites Kelp and Seaweed. This is the 17th year in a row we have seen Kelp in this location – truly extraordinary. As conditions were so good we headed far out, and we were rewarded with a small group of common dolphins. Their behaviour was quite quiet and covert so they would have been easy to miss, but we were looking in the right spot based on the tide conditions. We also had great views of seabirds both on the water and flying, including a close up encounter with a fulmar.
