Friday 1st May

May already! For May Day we were greeted by some lovely views of puffins – a single adult which sat very bravely on the water before taking off, followed by an immature bird with its sooty little face a while later. There were also lots of other seabirds to see including shearwaters, guillemots and razorbills. The slightly misty conditions brought the gannets right close inshore to follow the guidance of the coast. At the island we watched the grey seals; three females lay on the rocks in a placid fashion with a little juvenile tucked high up in a gully. Two bigger males swam along and hauled out in the same location, and there was a bit of grumbling about it. Later on we saw an old female hauled out on the Bucks rocks underneath the lighthouse.
Spaces remain at the weekend – a four hour trip tomorrow morning, a two hour in the afternoon, and a three hour trip on Sunday afternoon.
