We had a five hour Discovery Adventure this morning. There were bluefin tuna jumping everywhere, some really big ones. After watching the seals at the island we headed towards some bird activity and there was suddenly an enormous amount of white water under them, and this was all tuna rushing around at the surface. There were also a good number of common dolphins with them. After that we decided to head east, and found very large numbers of dolphins a long way out. With them were feeding gannets and gulls, and occasional huge bust ups of tuna set up, though they were moving very fast and didn’t stay in the same place for long. Other seabirds included a grey phalarope, kittiwakes, the odd guillemot and a puffin as well as the herring and great black backed gulls. The shearwaters appeared to have left Mount’s Bay for the approaching winter now, which is unusually early.
