Wednesday 20th August
We had a lovely four hour trip this morning, with lots of common dolphin sightings who looked beautiful swimming through the still water with the clouds reflecting on the surface. There were some bluefin tuna feeding with them, though nothing too concentrated. We also had some awesome views of harbour porpoises swimming very close to the boat – we could hear them “pffffing” loudly in the still air. We also saw a big old bull seal swimming very close to the boat out in the bay, who gave us a Hard Stare as we passed. This afternoon the wind really got up and we had a great sail firstly east over to Perranuthnoe where we watched lots of gannets chasing porpoises around, but the porpoises were far too speedy to track in the choppy waves. We had much better luck further offshore with a large pod of dolphins containing lots of mums and very little calves. At the end of the trip we saw three seals bottling round the island. There are a lot of kittiwakes out there at the moment.
