Wednesday 16th April
After a miserable couple of days of weather, what a great day we had today. It’s often the way that after a strong westerly blow and rain, we get fab sightings and so it was on both the morning and the afternoon Ocean Discovery trips. This morning we saw 3 different pods of common dolphins who bow rode “Shearwater II” for ages as we sailed, including adults and small calves. We also spotted a great variety of seabirds and several seals on the island including our old friend “Kelp” who has turned up for another season . On the afternoon trip we saw seals hauled out on the rocks and in the water, lots of shearwaters, gannets, kittiwakes and fulmars. We also found another pod of dolphins were who feeding with the seabirds. We watched them for a while, before they came over to join us for a while. What a gorgeous day.
