Tuesday 8th August
More delightful summer weather today, with mizzle and murk and by the afternoon a fairly brisk westerly wind. The wildlife made up for it. This morning we had a four hour trip, and we had great views of common dolphins and a really good variety of seabirds, including storm petrels, sandwich terns, Manx, spooty and great shearwaters, and gannets. We also saw a grey seal perched high up on a rock at high tide. This afternoon the dolphins were in a shyer mood and we watched them doing their own thing – quiet socialising and resting. We found three groups in total. When we came into the coast we saw five seals hauled out on the rocks. Sea sightings included a juvenile puffin.
