It was so windy yesterday and overnight we shortened our morning four hour to a three hour trip. It was a south easterly wind so still fairly choppy, however we had some great views of a pod of about fifty common dolphins with lots of gannets as well as a male seal hauled out on the rocks. This afternoon we headed east first, past St Michael’s Mount and a bit further on, where again we saw a grey seal on the rocks. This was a male we recognise from being round the island this summer – the sensible seal had made its way across the bay and hauled out in the only place with shelter on an easterly. We then hoisted the sails and headed south. The wind was finally starting to drop and the sea to calm, and we were able to head out to where some gannets were diving. It seemed like just gannets at first but common dolphins slowly started to reveal themselves, hunting alongside leaping bluefin tuna. There were lots of Manx shearwaters soaring past too.
