Tuesday 1st July
July already! It was suitably summery in terms of the wildlife found today, if not the weather. This morning we saw more harbour porpoises than we have seen since last autumn. We start seeing much larger groups from July onwards as they come in to the bay to feed on the fattening fish, but I can’t remember it ever happening on the actual 1st July! We also saw good numbers of common dolphins who lazily swam with us through the morning calm, giving everyone fantastic views. Seabirds included Mediterranean gulls. This afternoon we had some awesome views of a pod of porpoises as they swam repeatedly round the boat, including a mum with very small calf. The breeze came up later in the trip so we were able to have a lovely sail, and we also found a large ocean sunfish. There were several seals round the island, including the female with the infection on her side, which doesn’t seem to be getting any better 😞
