We had a five hour Discovery Adventure trip today in sometimes blustery conditions, and it was definitely a wildlife filled, windy adventure. The northwesterly was due to build so the early start was useful and we were able top head out a long way to the south before everything got a bit too exciting. The first area we found with feeding gannets, there were a few common dolphins, but it was when we got a lot further out that things started getting really interesting! Hundreds of gannets and dolphins were absolutely intent on eating as much as possible, and just as the wind and waves really built, a large minke whale surged through the throng. Unfortunately it was far too quick for photos and conditions weren’t easy for picking it up again. We then headed inshore a bit and reefed the sail down as it got very blustery, heading for the Tuna Spot which didn’t disappoint. After some patient watching and waiting, the tell tale garfish started fleeing at the surface, followed by big tuna breaches – BOOM! This happened a few more times, and as we sailed away it started really firing. To finish  the trip, we found 12 very relaxed seals snoozing on the rocks round the island.
