Most unusually this year, this morning was like a typical Cornish summer’s day with murk and mizzle! It didn’t actually last long though, and by lunchtime the northerly breeze had blown the rain away and the sun was back out.

This morning’s Ocean Discovery saw HUNDREDS of common dolphins. They were feeding with a mad cacophony of seabirds including squawking gulls and diving gannets. It was a proper feeding frenzy. This was fairly close inshore, then as we headed out, the dolphin sightings continued, so the rain really didn’t matter. We also saw a few grey seals hauled out, and some tuna in among the dolphins and birds too.

We then had a very busy afternoon with a further two Bay Discovery trips. The wind had increased meaning we had a lovely sail, and some really good views of several seals hauled out on the island. Wisely they chose the sheltered southerly end of the island for their haul out spot. It was quieter for much of the trip other than an ocean sunfish, but as we approached the harbour we had very brief views of a group of common dolphins, who then completely disappeared. By the final trip of the day the dolphins had all moved beyond the scope of the two hour trip, though we had a great sail on that  breeze and saw several seals bobbing around by the island.
