Thursday 14th August

Dolphins swimming near the surface of a choppy sea with distant cliffs visible.

Lots of August dolphins around today, both inshore and offshore. We also saw a large group of harbour porpoises this morning, some tuna feeding with a variety of seabirds and some grey seals. The sea was surprisingly choppy and grey! It calmed down for the afternoon three hour trip, and we went east instead of west, and there were dolphins all over the place, mainly feeding under spectacular diving gannets. We also saw a few harbour porpoises and lots of little storm petrels flitting around. We had a lovely relaxing sail and flew the spinnaker as we headed inshore…before the wind dropped to nothing! As we drifted along, we heard the “pfffff” of a porpoise as it surfaced next to us – very tranquil.
