Sunday 28th June

The heatwave had a break in west Cornwall today, with a dip in temperatures and a fresh westerly wind blowing. Coupled with the wind of yesterday, this created some big rolling swell, making it tricky to search for wildlife. On both trips we found some seals round the island, both in the water and hauled out. Gannets, Manx shearwaters, guillemots and fulmars were seen soaring and flapping past us, and at the end of the morning trip we were suddenly joined by a lone juvenile Risso’s dolphin who sped over to bowride briefly, before peeling away again.
Tomorrow is looking calmer and from Wednesday onward conditions are again looking pretty good. Spaces remain on the four and three hour trips later from then.
