Sunday 18th May

Common dolphin leaping

Another beautiful day – we need to make the most of it because things are due to change next weekend! This morning we saw a couple of grey seals at the island, before finding lots of common dolphins and seabirds and had a lovely sail on the southerly breeze. This afternoon we saw just a handful of dolphins at first who were in a very sleepy mood so we gave them plenty of space and didn’t stay too long. Far far away I spotted slight hints of white against the pale sky on the horizon, so faint I wasn’t sure. However I just had a bit of a feeling that it was kicking off down there so we headed in that direction – it took a while but eventually we found many more dolphins feeding with hundreds of shearwaters and some gannets (the hints of white!) They gave passengers on board an outstanding experience as they bowride with us for miles – they surrounded the boat and escorted us for a couple of miles back to shore.
