Saturday 3rd May

common dolphins

It was a day of two halves today. This morning’s four hour trip started off calm with light winds – we had a lovely encounter with some sleepy common dolphins and puffins, and there were hundreds of Manx shearwaters rafted on the water further west. We had great views of Land’s End and the Minack theatre in the morning light. Over lunch the northerly wind dialled itself up several notches, so we stayed well inshore on the afternoon Bay Discovery. We had first class views of a sailing race going past the Mount, being run by Marazion Sailing Club – they were really moving! Apart from a seal over near Cudden all was quiet for wildlife – perhaps it had been blown offshore, and we had a good dousing on the way back to Penzance.
