Saturday 23rd May

Seal resting on rocky shore near the water

It was all about the sailing and the shearwaters today. The sun broke through the persistent cloud we have had for the last few days, and just the right amount of northeasterly breeze gave us unexpectedly perfect sailing conditions. Today had been going to be a day off before the busy half term starts, but conditions looked so great we scheduled a short notice Bay Discovery and we were joined by eleven guests who loved the sail across the bay with thousands upon thuosands of Manx shearwaters on display. They were rafted on the water, soaring on the breeze and circling round feeding in the big patches of plankton. Numbers like that are hard to describe! We came into the island and saw a couple of seals – Kelp on the rocks and another snoozing in the water. Thanks to all who joined us this afternoon!
