Saturday 21st June

common dolphin

Happy  solstice. It started off murky and damp with a few rolls of thunder first thing so it was a good thing we had a later start than normal for this morning’s trip. The sun broke through and we started the trip by finding come common dolphins in the morning calm. We also saw a grey seal dozing in the water, and again some really spectacular seabird feeding, again including some sooty shearwaters. On the afternoon Bay Discovery, conditions were right for getting the spinnaker out, and we had our first spinnaker sail of the year as we headed out of the Bay. We saw a single common dolphin – I don’t know where all the others had got to! There were a couple of seals round the island again and masses of shearwaters rafted up on the surface.
