Saturday 10th October

Autumn is advancing! No moans there after such a long summer and glorious September. We had a four hour this morning in quite a big swell. There was also a lot of tide running, which made the waves stand up round the headlands. Have a look at the photo of the little boat fishing in the Runnelstone tidal race! We saw common dolphins racing in and out to bowride and some spectacular gannet activity, diving in over feeding tuna. We also had a quick view of some porpoises but they were too quick for photos, and also some hauled out grey seals.
This afternoon we had a Bay Discovery and it was quieter in the inner part of the bay than it has been for some time, leaving us with just a few seals in the water and some seabirds to look at. It was spectacular to watch the squalls advancing from offshore over to the east, though luckily we managed to dodge them. Next spaces available are on Monday’s Ocean Discovery at 10, weather permitting.
