Friday 8th August
Weather conditions were altogether quieter and drier today, thank goodness, and it looks like a lovely spell of weather coming up (6 spaces remain on the 1pm Bay Discovery on Sunday). This morning we started the trip with a large group of porpoises followed by two separate dolphin encounters. All the dolphins were far too busy hunting to bother too much with us. Another really big group of porpoises were spotted charging around under diving gannets further inshore, along with some grey seals. This afternoon there were large numbers of dolphins spotted along with some really tiny and very cute calves. Seabirds included lots of gannets and Manx shearwaters, though we’re not yet seeing the large numbers of larger shearwaters we were seeing this time last year.
