Friday 16th August

Risso's dolphin face

Busy day today with two Bay Discovery trips and an Ocean Discovery. This morning first thing we took a group out from https://trelya.com/, and we had a wonderful trip in the morning sunshine, spotting seals, leaping bluefin tuna, and two groups of common dolphins. We watched the dolphins feeding and then they came for a sail with us. On the Ocean Discovery we headed further west and offshore as we had heard rumours of Risso’s dolphins. We found them broadly where expected, though they were quite tricky in the choppy waves. Closer in by the lighthouse, we saw large numbers of salps in the water. For the evening Bay Discovery however they moved much closer in, and we had an awesome encounter with them. We haven’t seen this species for some time, so the close interactive encounter was a real treat. We also saw some grey seals.
