Friday 11th October

common dolphin

We had a lovely Ocean Discovery trip today in the autumn sunshine. It was quiet for the first half and hour or so, then we started spotting fins, and lots of them! We found seven pods of common dolphins in the end , and most appeared to be adults this time. They were doing a mixture of hunting, travelling, and socalising and lots were in a very interactive mood. Further west we saw them feeding with diving gannets and bluefin tuna, and shoals of fish were rushing around at the surface. We ended the trip at the island where two seals were attempting to get up onto a ledge and dry out but there was still too much swell pulling them around.
