Wednesday 8th April

Today was an early hint of summer – even the wind felt warm (looks like all change for tomorrow though, as frequently happens in April). Another thing that can happen in April is a quiet day on the water! There was lots of seabird activity in one particular spot and this lasted all day – it looked like the perfect conditions to spot porpoises feeding or even an early minke whale, but no joy. What might have been happening was the guillemots and razorbills doing the normal job of the dolphins and herding the fish into little baitballs for the shearwaters and gannets. There were also a few seals around the island including one male with a nasty looking scar on the side of his face. The coast was looking amazing in the hazy sunshine and there was a long lazy swell running.
