Wednesday 15th July

Two dolphins swim side by side in the ocean.

The forecast was for much lighter easterly winds today so we set off on our 5 hour tour. We had fantastic sailing conditions and found a couple of feeding events with gannets and shearwaters offshore. We found a large pod of common dolphins feeding under the second with gannets raining in on fish and shearwaters whirring around. There were quite a few great shearwaters in amongst the Manxies, which was fantastic to see. As we left some of the dolphins came over to bowride and rode along with us for several kilometers before peeling away. We found good numbers of grey seals at both the start and end of the trip including Seaweed and Kelp. During the trip the wind steadily built and by the time we returned to the harbour it was gusting to 40 mph. We took the decision to call off the afternoon tour on safety grounds. 40 mph easterly winds make for very choppy, uncomfortable seas.
